Announcements:
Marie Valencia announced that the Foundation Dinner was a very successful event and everyone had a great time. Members who attended were Mr. & Mrs. Grossman, Marie Valencia and husband and Mr. & Mrs. Tenner. Our club got $5,200 credit to Rotary Foundation. There were several silent auctions and our own members won some of the items from the silent auction. Overall, everyone had a great time and hope our club’s participation next year will improve.
The President informed members that there would be no regular meeting on November 26 due to Thanksgiving Celebrations.
On December 10, 2015 and December 17, 2015 our regular meeting will be held at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant.
Guest Speaker
Marc Tapper introduced our Speaker for the day, Mr. Tommy Gelinas - Curator of the Valley Relics Museum.
Tommy Gelinas thanked us for having him at our meeting and he briefly spoke about the long-standing relationship with our club and hopes it will continue. He started by introducing himself as a “Valley Boy”. According to him, he was born in Burbank, raised in Sepulveda, Porter Ranch, and Van Nuys and is currently living with his wife and 4 children in Sherman Oaks. He spoke about how early on in his life, he started collecting artifacts about the San Fernando Valley and today he has the largest collection of artifacts pertaining to our great San Fernando Valley. He established the Valley Relics Museum in 2012 and in 2013; the Museum was opened to the public. Today he is proud to say that The Valley Relics Museum holds hundreds of historical artifacts of the Valley and has preserved the history of the San Fernando Valley. He encouraged members to come visit the Museum with families and friends so that they too can have the opportunity to learn about the San Fernando Valley history. Ritch Wynne thanked Tommy Gelinas for a wonderful history lecture and for the donation of T-Shirts for our Track Meets.
